OPERATIONAL II

Operational 2 is a performative video essay that applied the methodologies of Operational I. Operational 2 came to be from a short residency at Potestas Creative, a performance association based in Miaoli. We did a field trip to the ceramics museum and the shore. Miaoli is a predominantly Hakka township which was the main of ceramics production place of the Republic of China in the last century, much of the work was done by the underpaid, underage and marginalized Hakka women who lived in the city. Operational 2 investigates the ceramic collection of miniatures in the museum; by putting them in an endless serial and juxtaposing them with image of the factory workers. The second place where I collected footage for operational 2 is the shore of Miaoli, here wind turbines were erected in the 1990 to produce energy. At the horizon, one cannot see what looms behind; the mainland. The Taiwan strait is one of the most fragile places in the contemporary geopolitics, nonetheless, there, the feeling was of calmness and rapid winds. Winds that tell of change.

OPERATIONAL I

Operational 1 is a video essay and performance that deals with different perspectives and aspects of drawing and tracing of a narrative. Operational 1 was filmed in one location and was produced in one life session which was live-streamed to Treize, a cultural space in Paris. Here, I mixed the cultural artefacts I had collected during my stay in Taipei with drawings and music I had produced there. During this exercise of digital collage, mixing recorded videos with the live-streaming of material objects as well as the production of live sounds, I created a complex time based representation and rich picture of all the various impulses I had found interesting. Operational was the first video-performance, from which I would develop a more serious collage and montage methodology that I used in future projects.
